UHD Fall 2009 Arts Calendar includes visual arts, poetry and drama

The University of Houston-Downtown is featuring visual arts, poetry and drama to please the senses and sensibilities this fall. Members of the Greater Houston community can sample local Houston artists and poets, Eastern European and Asian culture, and a musical revue at UHD in Downtown Houston, 1 Main St. http://www.uhd.edu/ 713-221-8000

Aug. 27-Sept. 25 – University of Houston-Downtown’s O’Kane Gallery Exhibit “Raw: Classical Drawing and Painting with Contemporary Materials.”

Houston artists: Doug Cason, Mark Greenwalt and Lisa Quall. Runs through Sept. 25. Opening reception at the gallery 6 p.m. Aug. 27. Oct. 1-Nov. 5 – UHD’s O’Kane Gallery Exhibit “Henri Gadbois and Leila McConnell – 50 years.”

Houston artists Gadbois and McConnell exhibit a sample of their art created in the past 50 years. Runs through Nov. 5. Oct. 8-11 – Houston Poetry Fest, co-sponsored by the UHD Department of English and Cultural Enrichment Center

Featured Belarusian poet Valzhyna Mort reads at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, University of Houston-Downtown, One Main Street, Wilhelmina Cullen Robertson Auditorium, 3rd floor Academic Building. Oct. 30-Nov. 7 – UHD’s O’Kane Theatre’s fall production, “Ain’t Misbehavin’”

Musical revue “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” Runs through Nov. 7. Opening night is 8 p.m. Friday Oct. 30, UHD O’Kane Theatre (N364), University of Houston-Downtown, One Main Street, 3rd floor One Main Building.
