After a thorough national search, UHD is pleased to welcome Sara Jahansouz, Ed.D. as Dean of Students. Her successful tenure as Associate Dean of Students at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), as well as her extensive experience in both creating and facilitating numerous leadership development programs for college students, faculty and staff, make her an ideal fit for this important position.
In her new role, Jahansouz will oversee the development and improvement of the offices of student life, and the integration of the unit into the University’s efforts to improve student success. Specifically, she will supervise the offices of Student Activities, Disability Services, Veterans Services, Sports and Fitness, Student Health and Counseling Services, and the Career Development Center. She also will manage student discipline.
In her previous position at UTC, Jahansouz served as the student conduct officer, managed and developed student fee budgets and developed and facilitated leadership development programming for the campus, among other responsibilities.
Prior to joining UTC, Jahansouz served as director of Greek Life at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), where she established and directed an Office of Greek Life to build a fraternity and sorority community focused on values-based leadership.
Jahansouz served on the Region III Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Board and is the former chair of the Chattanooga Talent Dividend Initiative sponsored by CEOs for Cities and the Ford Foundation. She also was named UTC’s Student Government Association Professor of the Year in 2012.
She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kansas State University, a Master of Science degree in higher education administration from Indiana University, a Master of Public Administration degree in emergency and crisis management from UNCP and a doctorate of education in learning and leadership from UTC.
Jahansouz will begin her new role at UHD on Sept. 3.
