
Tom Lyttle, UHD professor of Arts and Humanities and director of the O'Kane Theatre, teaches a drama class on the set of "You Can't Take It With You."
The University of Houston-Downtown Department of Arts and Humanities' annual Fine Arts Festival April 4 to 10 will include theater productions, visual art, concerts, a film screening, UHD alumni presentations and a bilingual community story hour.
The UHD student production of "You Can't Take It with You" has a nominal admission fee. All other events are free and open to the public. Event dates, times, and locations on UHD's campus, One Main St., are listed below. The Festival is sponsored by UHD's O'Kane Gallery, O'Kane Theatre, the Cultural Enrichment Center, and the Office of the President.
The Communication Showcase, featuring presentations by UHD Communication Studies alumni Stacey McHenry and Zeljka Momirovic, will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Cullen Robertson Auditorium, third floor, Academic Building.
Space City Gamelan will present a concert of traditional Indonesian music at 8 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Cullen Robertson Auditorium, third floor, Academic Building.
Guerrilla Girls on Tour, an anonymous theater collective, will present "Feminists are Funny" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in the Cullen Robertson Auditorium, third floor, Academic Building.
UHD students will stage their production of "You Can't Take It with You" at 8 p.m. April 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9; 3 p.m. April 3; and 1:30 p.m. April 6 and 8 in the O'Kane Theatre, third floor, One Main Building.
A film screening of "The Longoria Affair" with filmmaker John J. Valadez will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the Cullen Robertson Auditorium, third floor, Academic Building.
The opening of the UHD Student Exhibition and a reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in the O'Kane Theatre, third floor, One Main Building.
Artful Reading for Children, a bilingual story time, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9, in the Coffeehouse, third floor, Academic Building.
The Houston Flute Choir will present "Loving Latin America" at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, in the Commerce Street Building.
