Plan now to attend UHD's spring open house on Saturday, April 2

Monday, March 21, 2011 / UHD Public Affairs

The University of Houston-Downtown faculty and staff invite prospective students, transfer students and their families to their spring open house, "Destination Downtown," from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 2, in UHD's Shea Street Building and historic One Main Building.

The open house is designed so participants can learn more about the University's colleges and degree programs, financial aid, online classes and other University services. Tours will be available on request. Students who bring their academic transcripts can apply for on-the-spot admission.

Radio station KRBE, 104.1 FM, will be on site and from 9 to 11 a.m. on-air personality "Special K" will be on hand to talk with students. The University's South Deck will offer a marketplace of ideas featuring academic departments, student organizations, campus resources and other college-related vendors.

"We have something special here at UHD. A UHD education opens a lot of doors and provides many opportunities for students," said UHD President Bill Flores. "We have exceptional faculty and staff members who have achieved great things in their fields and it really benefits our students."

The open house includes special information sessions for parents from 11 to 11:30 a.m. in the Special Events Room and Coffeehouse on the third floor of the Academic Building near the Wilhelmina Cullen Robertson Auditorium. The parent sessions also will be available in Spanish and Vietnamese.

Information will be available about classes offered at UHD's downtown location and at Lone Star College campuses at CyFair and Kingwood. Information at UHD Northwest, located at Lone Star College-University Park, will also be available.

Freshman applications for fall semester are due by the June 1 deadline with all documents arriving at UHD by July 15. Transfer students must apply by July 15 for fall semester, and they have until Aug. 15 to forward transcripts and other documents.
