Twelve UHD students receive public policy internships for service learning opportunities

The University of Houston-Downtown has 12 students this semester participating in the Civic Houston Internship Program of the University of Houston’s Hobby Center for Public Policy which places student workers with elected officials, public service organizations and political campaigns.

The Civic Houston Internship Program curriculum includes service learning projects and a written assignment which this fall focuses on voter participation.

UHD students participating in the internship program and where they work are:

Christina Mayes – Congressman Al Green; Lizeth Guerra – state Rep. Jessica Farrar; Quinten Flores – state Rep. Sylvester Turner; James Morris – Mayor’s Office of Intergovernment Relations; Frank Amakwe – Houston City Controller Ron Green; Russell Morris – Houston City Council Member Stephen Costello; Stephanie Power – Catholic Charities; Chris Simmons – Spring High School; Lee Ann Norell – Texans Together; John Chavez – Dan Huberty for Representative Campaign; Maria Pantoja – Jessica Farrar for Representative Campaign, and Marjorie Romero – Kristi Thibaut for Representative Campaign.
